San Francisco interim Mayor Mark Farrell is making a push to get his city to host the 2020 Democratic National Convention.

Farrell recently wrote a letter to Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Tom Perez in which he reportedly pitched that San Francisco would serve as the perfect foil to President Donald Trump and his policies.

“Hosting the 2020 Democratic National Convention will be [an] opportunity for San Francisco and the State of California to demonstrate once again what it means to be true leaders for all,” he reportedly wrote in the letter of the “resistance” state and city.

Pushing for the 2020 convention may be another move the interim mayor is making as he reportedly eyes a possible 2019 mayoral run, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Weeks before Trump’s Justice Department decided to sue California over three of its “sanctaury state” laws, Farrell also said he was willing to go to jail to ensure that San Francisco forever remains a sanctuary city.

In 2020, San Francisco will also be home to the Golden State Warriors. The reigning NBA champions decided not to go to the White House this year to celebrate their title after Trump disinvited Warriors star Steph Curry as the team was debating whether to attend. The Warriors ultimately decided to spend the day at African American Museum in Washington, DC with local students.

“Obviously, I think, that was a rallying point, not just for our team, but the NBA and, for the sports world in general, I think,” Curry said of Trump’s revocation.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr has also been one of the most vocal critics of Trump in the sports world. Kerr, the former Arizona University and Chicago Bulls sharpshooter, has repeatedly criticized Trump, especially on gun control.

If San Francisco gets the convention, it will also have to address the contamination in its downtown streets.

A recent NBC Bay Area investigation of San Francisco found “more than 300 piles of feces and 100 drug needles” lining the streets of the sanctuary city. As Breitbart News noted, a U.C. Berkeley infectious disease expert even said the level of contamination in San Francisco is “much greater” than slums in developing nations like India, Brazil, and Kenya.

San Francisco last hosted the Democratic convention in 1984 when the party nominated Walter Mondale to take on President Ronald Reagan, who thumped Mondale by carrying 49 states.
