Members of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and the off-campus Revolutionary Communist Party violently disrupted a panel discussion on the Middle East’s indigenous communities, featuring Kurdish, Armenian, and Jewish speakers, at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) last week.

The event was reportedly hosted by Students Supporting Israel at UCLA (SSI) on May 17.

“Yo guys, this is my fucking flag,” an SJP member said as he violently ripped an Armenian flad from a wall where it had been displayed alongside a Kurdish and Israeli flag.

“It’s my flag too man,” the speaker said, according to video footage of the incident, which was posted on YouTube.

The student then proceeded to speak in Armenian with a fellow student sitting on the panel before again, violently, ripping SSI papers on the table and throwing them onto the floor.

About 30 seconds after the incident, over a dozen people came in holding up a Palestinian flag, playing Arabic music, and holding up anti-Israel propaganda on posters, chanting, “Free, free Palestine!” using bullhorns.

They also chanted, “We want 48! We don’t want two states!” and “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!” and “fuck white supremacy!”.

The Armenian student who ripped the flag off the wall wrapped himself in it and stood at the front of the classroom, along with other protesters who disrupted the event.

A police officer arrived on the scene to usher the anti-Israel students out of the classroom but was confronted by a white male who shouted, “UCLA, we stand of the side of racism. UCLA, we stand on the side of terrorism. UCLA, we stand on the side of the terrorist state of Israel.” The officer being accused of racism happened to be black.

According to Algemeiner, pro-Israel students at UCLA called for the suspension of SJP and met with administrators on Wednesday, where they issued a list of demands:

We demand that the administration punish SJP and the students responsible for the violations, as turning a blind eye to such disruptive behavior will signal to SJP that bullying can continue on campus without any consequences. We demand that SJP will issue an apology to our speakers and student group for their brutal and non-academic behavior.

In a Facebook post listed to SSI’s page, the students wrote that despite their removal from the room by UCLA campus police, the protesters “continued to shout obscenities and bang on the door of the classroom as a means of physically intimidating students.”

SSI wrote, “Every student has a right to free speech and freedom of expression, and SJP robbed us of these freedoms. No student should feel unsafe on their campus, have their identity challenged, or be subject to the violent and traumatizing events which took place on May 17th.”

Last year, Breitbart News reported that “a group of pro-Palestinian students disrupted a panel discussion at University of California, Irvine of Israeli Defense Force (IDF) reservists who were fielding questions from students interested in hearing the Israeli perspective on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

Four months later, the local chapter of SJP at UC Irvine was sanctioned with disciplinary probation for two academic years for disrupting that event.

Earlier last year, Americans for Peace and Tolerance (APT), a Boston-based non-profit headed by Charles Jacobs, released a documentary called Hate Spaces: The Politics of Intolerance on Campus. The film exposes what it calls the left’s coalition with radical Islamic and antisemitic groups on college campuses throughout the United States to marginalize pro-Israel students.
