Steele Blasts Cruz, Perry for 'Playing Political Football' with Border Children

Monday on MSNBC’s “Ronan Farrow Daily,” former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele attacked Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) for in his view “playing political football” with the humanitarian crisis of thousands of illegal immigrant children flooding across the U.S. Mexico border.

While discussing the Texas lawmakers touring Lackland Air Force Base’s temporary youth immigration facility Steele said, “You have to stop playing political football with this issue, and the party has to realize, the Republican Party has to realize that there is a compassion that we must show for what is happening to people that it goes beyond protecting the border, which everyone knows. We got that. We understand that issue. Now let’s deal with the humanity of those individuals who are here and the issues that they are faced with. I’m hopeful that Rick Perry and Ted Cruz in particular picked that up today.”
