Missouri State Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal (D-University City), who represents Ferguson, blamed an “outside influence that is coming into Ferguson and misrepresenting the values of this community” for some of the increased violence.
“I will tell you that many of the members of this community are upset there is an outside influence that is coming into Ferguson and misrepresenting the values of this community. We want to protest in peace” she said on Monday’s on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports.”
Chappelle-Nadal also cited “negative senses here, [and] a lot of angry young people” as a reason for the unrest stating “because there are so many young people that have been hit time and time again with harassment and intimidation, a lot of these young people feel as though it’s fine to give up their lives right now, but what they’re doing essentially is taking away from the message and from the intent from those who are trying to protest in peace.”
She further blasted the handling of the investigation, and argued that police officer Darren Wilson should be imprisoned the one thing that would make this community certain that there is transparency in this process is if this police officer, Darren Wilson, was put in jail.
She declared, “I almost think that [Missouri Highway Patrol] Captain [Ron] Johnson is being used as a pawn to cover for all of the mistakes of Gov. Nixon at this time is being used as a pawn to cover for all of the mistakes of Gov. Nixon at this time” while calling for the resignation of Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson.
