Carney: Obama Will Make Effort to Cooperate with Republican Congress

Tuesday night on CNN, Anderson Cooper asked former White House press secretary and current CNN correspondent Jay Carney what a Republican takeover would mean for the Obama administration.

“For those in the White House tonight, they’re looking at the map, it’s obviously not looking good for them,” Cooper said. “We’ve already now heard Dana Bash reporting they are going to be meeting with bipartisan leaders from Congress later this week.”

“For President Obama, what does this mean moving forward?” Cooper asked.

“Well, I think that it’s pretty clear that unless Democrats are able to pick up some Senate seats at this point then it’s likely that Republicans will take the Senate,” Carney answered.

“I think no matter what happens, and I think it’s likely that Republicans win the Senate, the White House was planning to, and will try to engage with the new leaders of the Senate and the Congress, and make an effort to demonstrate a willingness to cooperate in a bipartisan fashion.”
