Dem Gov Hickenlooper: ‘Maybe the Russian Thing Is Trying to Distract Voters’ So They’re Not ‘Agitated’ by Healthcare Bill

On Friday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Hardball,” Governor John Hickenlooper (D-CO) stated Democrats were “spending way too much time” on Russia, and suggested that maybe the issue is an attempt to distract voters so they aren’t agitated about the Senate healthcare bill.

Hickenlooper said, “I think we’re spending way too much time, as Democrats, worrying about Russia, and I think we should stay on the policy issues. Because I — you know, my biggest concern with the health care is, why are we rushing this through? I’m the first person, and many Democratic governors agree, that we need to improve and change parts of the Affordable Care Act. But to roll back coverage on so many people, to do the — put so many people at risk, and especially the penalties that’ll be placed on people 50 to 65 years old. those kinds of burdens aren’t well known to people. And maybe the Russian thing is trying to distract voters so they’re not going to be so agitated and begin to pressure the senators who are trying to make up their mind about whether to support this new Senate healthcare plan.”
