Romney: Certain Burisma Subpoenas ‘I Could Support, Others I Couldn’t’

Wednesday during an interview with CNN’s Manu Raju, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) said he will support some subpoenas and not others during his colleague Sen. Ron Johnson’s (R-WI) investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden’s role in the firing of a Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin while his son Hunter Biden was on the board of Burisma.

Last Friday, Romney said he would vote to issue a subpoena to the Ukrainian energy company.

Raju asked, “Today, you are supporting the subpoena… Are you going to be open to supporting other subpoenas going forward to advance this investigation that you said you had concerns about?”

Romney said, “We will see what happens today and what request is made today. There are certain subpoenas I could support, others I couldn’t, and down the road, I’d like to get a better sense of where the investigation is going and what the intent it.”

He added, “I would like to understand precisely what it is that is being investigated before I could make a comment on whether I will support this effort down the road.”

Last Thursday, Romney criticized Johnson’s investigation by saying, “There’s no question that the appearance of looking into Burisma & Hunter Biden appears political. And I think people are tired of these kinds of political investigations. I would hope that if there is something of significance that needs to be evaluated, it would be done by perhaps the FBI or some other agency that is not as political as perhaps a committee of our body.”
