Sunday, at her new Patheos blog, Bristol Palin, daughter of Governor Sarah Palin, fired a shot across President Obama’s bow marked “hypocrite”:
You don’t know my telephone number, but I hope your staff is busy trying to find it. Ever since you called Sandra Fluke after Rush Limbaugh called her a slut, I figured I might be next. You explained to reporters you called her because you were thinking of your two daughters, Malia and Sasha. After all, you didn’t want them to think it was okay for men to treat them that way[.] …
But here’s why I’m a little surprised my phone hasn’t rung. Your $1,000,000 donor Bill Maher has said reprehensible things about my family. He’s made fun of my brother because of his Down’s Syndrome. He’s said I was “f—d so hard a baby fell out.”
Man alive, that’s the first I’ve hear about the “baby fell out” comment. Vile indeed.
Anyway, as you all know, Bristol’s post went viral, and for good reason. It was a well-argued point made by someone who has been targeted by the very worst among our left-wing pop culture class. Most of all, her arguments once again proved that the Left can’t win this stupid war they started against a non-existent war on women, because the very worst offenders are all on their side.
Predictably, readers fired back at Bristol with the usual hate and the expected nonsense about how Bill Maher’s speech is more protected than Rush Limbaugh’s. Here’s Bristol’s response to the latter:
Bill Maher is much more than a comedian. He’s a big-time political player who hides behind the “comedian” label whenever he gets criticized. His guest list represents a huge chunk of the Washington establishment and sometimes even includes prominent Republicans. And as I said in my original post, he’s put himself straight in the middle of presidential politics by giving $1,000,000 to President Obama’s SuperPAC. Bill Maher isn’t just some guy behind a microphone in a seedy comedy club in the middle of nowhere. He’s a comedian and political commentator like Rush is an entertainer and political commentator. He’s a little bit less popular, but his professional failure compared to Rush doesn’t make him any less accountable for his vile speech.

Obama’s super PAC either has to return that $1 million or deal with the uncomfortable fact that it will be the gift that keeps on giving straight through to election day. And they’re not holding on to the money because they need the money. They’re hanging on to it because they’re afraid returning it will offend Bill Maher.
Maher is Obama’s base and if Maher feels slighted and starts ripping on Obama in front of millions, that’s a headache the campaign doesn’t need.
In the end, it will all come down to which moves means less pain: keeping the money or returning it.
Either way, it’s a predicament for the Obama campaign and completely self-inflicted.
They started this stupid war and wrote these stupid rules. Now they have to live by them.
