The California Health Benefit Exchange has hired a PR firm to convince major TV networks to try to sell viewers on the virtues of Obamacare.
To add insult to injury, the federal government is one of the main sources for the money California will pay to the PR firm. Thus the same government that gave us a healthcare takeover we didn’t want is now invading our entertainment to convince us that the healthcare takeover isn’t that bad after all.
Exchange executive director Peter V. Lee says he would like “to see 10 of the major TV shows, or telenovelas, have people talking about ‘that health insurance thing.'” As a result, the exchange will pay Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide to convince shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Modern Family” to work Obamacare into their scripts.
Of the hundreds of millions the exchange has on hand to accomplish this, $237 million came directly from the federal government.
