Ashley Judd Not Running for U.S. Senate

Via her verified Twitter account, Tennessee resident Ashley Judd announced Wednesday that she will not run to unseat Republican U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell in Kentucky:

For a time, both Judd and the Democratic Party looked serious about mounting a challenge. In early March, the 44 year-old actress who has never been nominated for an Academy Award gave a high-profile speech in Washington, D.C. at the George Washington University’s School of Public Health and Health Services. Reviews were decidedly mixed.

This was followed by a number of gaffes, including an announcement that her Kentucky Senate campaign headquarters would be located in Tennessee. Most recently, when asked if she could handle someone as tough as McConnell, Judd reportedly answered, “I have been raped twice, so I think I can handle Mitch McConnell.”

Judd’s announcement should not come as a surprise. Only Republicans remain in Senate races after saying something stupid about rape.
