Jennifer Lawrence Accepts Role Model Status, Slams Miley Cyrus-style Antics

Rising star Jennifer Lawrence isn’t likely to twerk in public any time soon.

The star of the upcoming Hunger Games: Catching Fire told the press this week that she takes being a role model for young women seriously. And, without mentioning a certain name, she’s repulsed by the notion that sex sells best when peddled by young women.

When asked about the example set by Miss Cyrus, Miss Lawrence told the BBC’s Newsnight programme: ‘It is a part of the entertainment industry that sells. Sex sells, and for some disgusting reason young sex sells even more….’

‘For some people, that’s how they feel best, that’s how they feel sexy.’ She said that as long as she stars in movies that appeal to young girls, she will ‘make conscious decisions’ to set a good example.

She said she hopes her portrayal of Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games encourages young women to value strength of character over appearance.
