During NBC’s New Years Eve broadcast, panel commentator Natasha Leggero mocked Pearl Harbor survivors as people who can only “chew” soft foods like SpagettiO’s.
The broadcast was hosted by Carson Daly and a panel of celebrity commentators consisting of Leggero, Anthony Anderson and Jane Lynch.
Leggero’s joke at the expense of Pearl Harbor survivors came after an on-air discussion about a tweet SpagettiO’s sent on December 7. The tweet read, “Take a moment to remember #PearlHarbor with us.” The tweet contained an image of the SpaghettiO’s mascot holding an American flag and Daly said, “it wasn’t good.”
Thereafter Lynch made a comment then Leggero told her joke: “I mean, it sucks that…survivors of Pearl Harbor are being mocked by the only food they can still chew. It’s just sad.”
After Leggero finished Daly turned away, intimating he knew the joke was unacceptable. But Anderson, Lynch, and Leggero laughed out loud.
