Punk rocker Henry Rollins is no fan of the A&E series Duck Dynasty, calling it “one of the shittiest shows ever put on television.”
He’s still aghast at cultural efforts to silence the show’s southern stars.
Rollins expounds on the controversy regarding the brief suspension of Duck star Phil Robertson for comments made about the gay lifestyle and race relations in LA Weekly.
The singer/actor/speaker doesn’t agree with Robertson’s take on homosexuality, nor does he think the reality show star’s memories of seemingly contented blacks who lived near him in the south make him a racist.
This has been termed by many to be a racist point of view. I don’t necessarily agree. It very well could be what the man remembers of these times. Who cares? Who does Phil Robertson really influence?
What Rollins does hope happens from the kerfuffle is a creative response from the gay community to Robertson’s position.
On the flip side of things, one of you supremely talented graphic artists should start a comic book series starring the Duck dudes as homosexual bears. Talk about crossover potential. The thing writes itself. At the next major gay pride event, there should be hard-bodied men in camo hot pants, ridiculous beards pasted to their chins, blowing through duck calls. Dick Dynasty is a gay porn series just waiting to happen.
