Netflix Scores First Oscar Nom for Egyptian Revolution Doc

The streaming giant Netflix announced it was more than the place to binge watch Breaking Bad by creating original shows like House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black.

Those programs quickly earned the company industry honors, and now Netflix has its first Oscar nomination to go along with them.

Nominated for best documentary, ‘The Square’ takes viewers inside the Egyptian revolution and demonstrates how a group of revolutionaries used a combination social media and videos to liberate their country.

The streaming giant acquired the rights to the movie last month after it announced it was going to make a bigger investment in the movie business.

Netflix continues to take aggressive business moves, including the acquisition of the political documentary Mitt and exploring ways to stream 4K content.
