Kid Rock, Alan Jackson Defy Peers, Will Play SeaWorld This Weekend

The most rebellious act a rock singer can take these days is playing at Orlando SeaWorld.

Enter Kid Rock.

The scruffy singer will appear at the Orlando-based park along with country crooner Alan Jackson this weekend as part of its Bands, Brew and BBQ event.

Jackson opens the SeaWorld festival, which features six weekends of concerts, with a concert at 5 p.m. Saturday.  Kid Rock will follow with a show at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The park endured a flurry of gig cancellations after the documentary Blackfish focused on the treatment of seal life under the park’s care.

The film tells the story of the killing of SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau by an orca in 2010. It raises questions about the safety and humaneness of keeping killer whales in captivity.

Barenaked Ladies, Heart, Cheap Trick, Trace Adkins, Willie Nelson and Martina McBride are among the singing acts who canceled their appearances at the park after learning about the documentary’s findings.
