Neo-Nazis Dress Up as Cookie Monster to Distribute Extremist Leaflets to Kids

German Neo-Nazis are using the popular children’s television character Cookie Monster to recruit kids in school playgrounds.

A recent incident featured 31-year-old Steffen Lange, who was arrested after distributing Neo-Nazi propaganda at a school in Brandenburg. Lange was dressed as the Sesame Street character, according to The Sun.

Police have now begun searching Lange’s home, as well as that of one of his accomplices. So far they have discovered more recruitment leaflets featuring the Cookie Monster, one of which contained an image of the character standing next to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

A Brandenburg police spokesman: “There is nothing humorous about far right ideology despite the fact they are trying to trivialise it by getting the Sesame Street character involved.

“It’s an attempt to make it seem harmless and everyday and perhaps a bit of fun and a bit rebellious.”

The IBTimes notes that in May 2013, the National Socialist Underground released a Pink Panther cartoon claiming responsibility for a series of racist murders in Germany.
