(UPI) — Canada’s new search-and-rescue aircraft from Airbus Defense and Space are to feature ELM-2022A maritime patrol radars from Israel Aerospace Industries.

The ELM-2022 is multi-mode radar for detection, localization, classification, and tracking of targets over water and land in all weather conditions. It is made by Elta Systems, a subsidiary of IAI.

“The Radar provides 360-degree azimuth and sector mode operation from an antenna located under the fuselage,” IAI and Elta said in a news release. “ELM-2022 incorporates advanced technology and features derived from extensive operational experience.”

Details of the contract from Airbus to supply the system for 16 C295 aircraft was not disclosed.

IAI said more than 250 ELM-2022 Maritime Patrol Radars have been sold to customers worldwide in more than 25 countries
