TEL AVIV – President Donald Trump is “‘mentally unstable” and a  “racist”, an official from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ ruling Fatah faction claimed after the U.S. announced that its embassy in Jerusalem would open in May to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Israel’s independence.

Fatah Revolutionary Council member Muwaffaq Matar on Sunday published an oped in the PA’s official daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida in which he claimed that Trump’s political decisions, particularly those relating to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, are the result of his unbalanced mental state.

“His political decisions … stem from a complex, impulsive, unbalanced, and mentally unstable personality, and in our opinion these are the main characteristics of the racist personality,” Matar wrote in the article translated by Palestinian Media Watch.

The Fatah official added that Trump shares all the characteristics of “Zionists.”

“He is not only aggressive, rude and controlling, but he is a combination of a mentality of theft and of a denial of the rights of others, and these are exactly the characteristics of the Zionist personality,” Matar wrote.

Contrary to Matar’s propaganda, Zionists are those who believe in a Jewish nation in the land of Israel.

Matar added said that Trump had “shamelessly” gone farther than any U.S. government since “the birth of the settlement, colonialist, Zionist entity ‘Israel.'”

He compared U.S. support of Israel with the “adoption of an infant, which came to the world through illegal relations that can be called relations of political adultery between colonialist powers — led by Great Britain — and Zionism.”

The Trump administration, Matar concluded, was treating the Palestinian people as “enemies.”

The same paper also published a cartoon featuring Trump standing in an open grave, aiming a handgun at the head of a dove, apparently killing the chances for peace.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian National Council this week also reacted with anger to the embassy news, saying it was a “blatant defiance toward the international, Arab and Islamic will” and “an intensification of the aggression.”

“The council emphasized that the American administration’s insistence on carrying out the aggressive decision proves again that it has chosen isolation and to distance itself from peace in favor of the occupation, and has made it responsible for the consequences of this,” a news report on PA TV said.

The Council, which is the PLO’s legislative body, also urged the Arab world to use all its resources to prevent the embassy relocation from happening.

“The Council demanded that the Arab and Islamic nation defend Jerusalem and its holy sites, and harness their full abilities and connections in order to prevent the execution of this decision,” the report, translated by PMW, said.
