Rodney Leon Harrison, an 18-year old black man running for mayor of Vacaville, California, reports that a poster for his campaign was defaced with a swastika.
In a statement on his website, he wrote:
In my quest to become Mayor some among us have taken it upon themselves to deface one of my posters. This sign was not just any place; it was near my home church of St. Matthews Baptist Church. Moreover, the sign was not merely defaced; the symbol with the greatest connection to hatred, a swastika was used.
I will not be deterred by this random act of ill will! I pledge to fight this type of immoral behavior which stains our beautiful city with malice. Thank you for your prayers, support, and vote!
Other candidates for the post include City Councilman Ron Rowlett and former mayor Len Augustine, who retired in 2010 after serving eight years as mayor.
