Two People Being Monitored for Ebola near Sacramento

Health officials in Sacramento County have been monitoring two people who traveled recently to Ebola-stricken West Africa. Although neither person is showing symptoms of the deadly virus and have yet to be hospitalized, the situation has raised alarms as to California’s preparedness should an Ebola patient surface in the region.

Both people have reportedly been labeled as “very low risk” for the hemorrhagic (or “bleeding out”) fever, according to local NBC News affiliate KCRA. As a result, they have not been hospitalized but are in contact with health officials and are “self-monitoring,” which includes them personally taking their own temperature twice a day and calling the results in.

Specific hospitals have not yet been selected for the specific purpose of treating a potential Ebola patient in California. There is apparent confusion among state health officials as to whether a plan for transferring specific patients is yet in place.
