Rape Revenge: Former ‘Mom of the Year’ Arrested, Charged for Soliciting Rape

A former “Mother of the Year” was charged earlier this week with soliciting rape by placing online ads inviting men to sexually assault the wife of a couple who had bought a home she was interested in purchasing in California’s Carmel Valley. The ads reportedly also indicated that the woman’s husband was away for work, provoking a felony stalking charge, to which the woman pleaded guilty.

If sentenced, Kathy J. Rowe, 53, could face a maximum of three years jail time. Her sentencing is scheduled for January 9, according to San Diego’s ABC 10 News.

The Craigslist ads inviting men to rape the woman were reportedly placed between October of 2011 and June of 2012. Rowe–a former county employee–had earned the “Mother of the Year” award in 2007 for the work she did for her disabled daughter, and stated that she wanted to purchase the Carmel Valley home due to the district’s schools, which would provide better care for her child, notes ABC 10.

Several felony charges, such as solicitation for rape and sodomy were initially dismissed by a Superior Court judge in light of Rowe’s guilty plea. However, the District Attorney’s Office reportedly appealed the decision and the 4th District Court of Appeal reinstated the charges.

Despite describing her actions as a “prank” and blaming her crude undertaking on stress, the prosecutor said that her behavior went far beyond a harmless prank, which is why the solicitation and stalking counts were filed.
