Read Number 10's Hilarious and Depressing Response to Climate Change FOI

Paul Homewood, from the ‘Not a lot of people know that‘ blog, wanted to know the basis for David Cameron’s “suspicion” that the recent floods were a result of Climate Change. So Mr Homewood decided to send a Freedom of Information Request to Number 10, his reply arrived today:

Dear Mr Homewood,

Thank you for your email of 3rd February in which, in response to an answer by the Prime Minister at PMQs on 8 January “I agree with my Hon. Friend. that we are seeing more abnormal weather events”, you ask what evidence there is that “abnormal events are increasing” and what evidence the recent bad weather is any way “abnormal”.

The Act provides access to recorded information. In this case the quote that you have provided makes clear that this is a visual observation – “we are seeing”.

Yours sincerely,

Nicholas Howard

The letter would be hilarious if beleaguered communities weren’t so depressed about the Environment Agency. The agency take the view that they mustn’t spend money stopping floods because its an inevitable part of climate change.

Instead, they have diverted billions into hobby-horse projects whilst places like Somerset are deluged.
