China has new satellite images of floating objects that could be related to missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, Malaysian Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said Saturday.
“The news that I just received is that the Chinese ambassador received satellite image of floating objects in the southern corridor and they will be sending ships to verify,” Hishammuddin told a news briefing in Kuala Lumpur.
The main object is said to be 22.5m long and 13m wide. Reports suggest it was spotted by satellites 120km west of where teams have been working off the coast of Australia. The images are said to have been taken on Tuesday March 18th.
The announcement was made at this morning’s press conference, along with further information such as the fact that a transcript between the plane’s pilots and ground control leaked to media yesterday “is not accurate”.
Authorities have also stated that the search conditions in the Indian Ocean are ‘very challenging’. Tropical Cyclone Gillian now heading in that direction.
Australian authorities have declared that their search will continue indefinitely, while the Malaysian transport minister also refuses to give up hope.
