Dolly Parton, the 68-year old grande dame of country who stole the hearts of the 120,000 strong crowd at the mother of all rock festivals — Glastonbury — has denied that her performance involved any lip-syncing.
“My boobs are fake, my hair’s fake but what is real is my voice and my heart,” she told the Sun newspaper in response to suggestions that her vocals were mimed.
Parton’s spokesmen, too, weighed in on her defence.

My own view — though I missed her live set because I’d gone home by then to avoid the traffic — is that her vocals were bona fide. From what I saw on TV, Parton thoroughly deserved the acclaim she has had as one of the all-time great Glastonbury performers (in a field which has included everyone from the Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney to Radiohead, Coldplay, Johnny Cash, and Metallica).
Parton, who has sold over 100 million records and been performing for 60 years, has been at her game so long that she makes it look easy. Have a look, for example, at another of her set’s stand-out moments: the bit where she plays the theme tune to the Benny Hill show on her personal, bejewelled mini saxophone. Were her apparently effortless multi-instrumental skills (she also plays the fiddle, the banjo and the guitar) faked too?
I don’t think so. And I refuse to believe so. The view of Breitbart London is: we love you Dolly!
