Nigel Farage has announced that he is “very pleased” to have been re-elected as leader of the UK Independence Party. His four year term had been due to end on the 5th November, but he will now continue to lead his party into next year’s landmark general election.

The Returning Officer, UKIP General Secretary Roger Bird, confirmed that as only one nomination had been received, Nigel Farage had been re-elected unopposed as UKIP Leader. His new term will begin on 5th November.

Farage is a charismatic personality and an immensely popular leader. At a time when British membership of political parties is at an all time low, Ukip has seen its membership skyrocket, more than doubling in the last three years to reach 38,000 this summer. The party is well on course to overtake the Liberal Democrats in terms of membership numbers by the next election.

The Ukip leader is the only one of the four main British party leaders to consistently achieve a positive approval rating in polls this year. Most recently, a YouGov poll showed Farage scoring a 9 percent approval rating, whereas Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg languished at around -55 percent. Neither David Cameron nor Ed Milliband made it into positive figures either.

Today his MEPs lined up to rally behind him, with the leader of the UKIP delegation in the European Parliament, Roger Helmer MEP telling Breitbart London: “I am delighted, although not surprised that Nigel has been re-elected, unopposed, to lead our party for another term.

“His vision and commitment to the betterment of our country is an inspiration to everybody within UKIP, and beyond.

“Nigel was instrumental in demonstrating to me why UKIP was a party I should support back in 2012, and he is the perfect person to deliver that same message to the people of Britain, as we enter one of the most important political periods in our history.”

Diane James MEP, who last year missed out on becoming Ukip’s first British Member of Parliament by just 1,771 votes said: “Nigel Farage is the most outstanding UK Politician of this generation. Ukip is now a formidable force in UK politics, and under his continued leadership UK is now on course for success in the general election 2015.

“I am personally delighted at this outcome which acknowledges the outstanding contribution Nigel is making to UK politics.”

Steven Woolfe MEP, who represents Ukip in the North West England region said: “I am delighted that Nigel has been re-elected as leader once again. Under his leadership the party has become a major force in British politics and has given the people a real voice for change.”

The man himself was rather modest about his achievement when contacted by Breitbart London, telling us exclusively “I am pleased that Ukip has confidence in me.” Considering the matter further he added: “I will lead a united party into the next general election with the anticipation of an electoral breakthrough.”

Ukip are on track to pick up their first Westminster seat in Clacton, Essex next month, following the defection of Douglas Carswell to the party in a shock announcement at the end of August. The party also hopes to pick up a number of seats at the next general election, cementing their place as a major player in British politics, and perhaps becoming the kingmakers if another hung parliament is returned.

Farage himself will be hoping to be elected as the member of parliament for Thanet South. He has been an MEP since 1999, and leader of the party since 2010. He was also leader between 2006 and November 2009, when he stepped down to concentrate on his general election campaign as the Ukip candidate for Buckingham.
