Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna has announced his bid for leadership of the Labour Party in a wobbly, wind-swept video recorded in the town of Swindon.
Umunna says: “I’m pleased today to be announcing that I will be standing for the leadership of the party. I think we can and we should be wining in seats like in Swindon. North, South, East, West we can absolutely do it as a party.”
The video, and Umunna’s less-than-charismatic performance, has drawn laughter on social media, with some already suggesting he deliberately made it bad to show himself as a “man of the people”, rather than a slick media operator. If so, he clearly failed:
Is the @ChukaUmunna FB video deliberately amateurish (fuzzy image, wind-noisy) to escape charge of too much polish? https://t.co/hdIJq9OCKg

Can someone explain why Chuka Umunna has launched his bid for Labour leader looking like a media studies student doing a project?

Please let his campaign slogan be 'Chuka can'. (Has everybody done that joke already while I was at the doctor?)

Chuka's announcement video looks more like an Ice Bucket Challenge https://t.co/p46dDlKIo2

In 2013, it was revealed that someone had edited Umunna’s Wikipedia entry to say he “may end up as the UK’s Barack Obama.” The edit came from his own office.
