Nigel Farage, the leader of UKIP, has slammed the Prime Minister for using the death of Jo Cox MP for political gain in the EU referendum campaign, and “trying to conflate the actions of one individual with the motives of half of Britain”.

Speaking on LBC radio, Mr. Farage first acknowledged how the tragic and shocking murder had taken momentum out of the Leave campaign, and explained:

“What we’re seeing is the Prime Minister and the Remain campaign trying to conflate the actions of one crazed individual with the motives of half of Britain who think we should get back control of our borders and do it sensibly.”

“I think there are Remain camp supporters out there who are using this to try to give the impression that this isolated horrific incident is somehow linked to arguments that have been made by myself or Michael Gove or anybody else in this campaign, and frankly that is wrong,” he added.

Just 48 hours after the death of the Labour MP, Chancellor George Osborne ordered Leave campaigners to not use so-called “inflammatory rhetoric” and said that “because of the tragic death of Jo [Cox] we can have a less divisive political debate in our country”.

MPs within Mr. Osborne’s own party said the comments were “shameful” as they used the death of the MP for “partisan advantage” in the referendum campaign.

LBC presenter Nick Ferrari also questioned Mr. Farage about his and UKIP’s “breaking point” poster campaign, which the PM has described as “just wrong” and “stoking up fear”.

Mr. Farage explained that he and the party have said nothing “inciteful” during, adding:

“We have a Prime Minister and a Chancellor and other big political leaders in Britain who are scared witless.

“They thought they would win this referendum by a country mile. They know it’s neck and neck, they know it’s down to who turns out on the day to vote, and there is no level of denigration or false association that they will not stoop to, but I think people are intelligent enough to see through this sort of thing.”
