Parts of London remain cordoned off after Saturday’s deadly terror attack, with makeshift shrines popping up near the barriers established around the scene.
Flowers have been laid on the South side of London Bridge, close to Borough Market in London, in tribute to the victims of the attack. People have gathered near the flowers to mourn and pay their respects.
So far, seven people have been announced dead and more than thirty remain in hospital – 18 with serious injuries. Three terrorists attacked them with a van and knives late Saturday night.
Twelve people, including four women in niqabs and men in Islamic robes, were arrested in Barking yesterday after raids at a flat believed to be the home of one of the attackers. A 55-year-old man has been released without charge.
One of the attackers was allegedly a well-known Islamist who appeared on Britain’s Channel 4 TV station.
He had been reported to police, allegedly attempted to recruit children into radical Islam in a local park, and can be linked to the network around notorious hate preacher Anjem Choudary.
Witnesses to attack have told how Londoners fought the terrorists, throwing chairs and glasses, with a taxi driver attempting to “ram” the attackers with his vehicle.
