A Christian Labour councillor has been suspended by the party after posting a tweet calling gay pride marchers who paraded naked in front of children “paedophiles”.

Harrow councillor Chika Amadi shared an article on Twitter from the Christian website, LiveSiteNews.com in July which showed a little girl covering her eyes as naked men marched by during Toronto’s 2011 Gay Pride Parade.

Ms. Amadi shared the 2014 article and tweeted: “Nothing but Paedophelia [sic] labelled liberalism. Adults polluting children with their senselessness. Walked naked to drive your point home?”

MailOnline reports that the tweets were later deleted, but another read similarly:  “Walking about naked in front of children is nothing but paedophelia [sic] being labelled liberalism.”

“My fight is simple: let adults do their thing but protect children. That could be anyone’s child. I am distressed,” she also tweeted.

When accused of homophobia by gay rights activists on Twitter, the councillor tweeted: “Evil. If you dare walk naked in front of my child God will give you terrible assignment that will put you to perpetual sleep. Be warned.”

The national party since became involved and suspended Ms. Amadi from Labour, “pending an investigation”, according to a spokesman.

Alleging the comments regarding naked men exposing themselves to children was “homophobic”, Harrow Council leader Sachin Shah told the Evening Standard that he “condemn[ed] these abhorrent statements”.

“Homophobic views have no place in our community – which is one of the most diverse and accepting in all of the UK. Harrow Council this year has been awarded ‘Most Improved Organisation’ by LGBT charity Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index.

“We stand for equal rights for all – and I have asked the national Labour Party to deal with this issue swiftly and decisively.”

PinkNews reports that Amadi, who describes herself as a pastor on her Facebook page, “has a history of unchallenged homophobic comments”, including sharing a Facebook post rejecting calls to legalise homosexuality in Gambia and in 2010 tweeting: “Are people born gay or is it a choice?”

Ms. Amadi has since tweeted a meme indicating she feels liberals are hypocritical, only tolerant of beliefs which are the same as their own.
