Remain campaigner and former deputy prime minister Nick Clegg is rumored to be on the New Year’s Honours List in the United Kingdom, with Her Majesty’s government set to award the one of the Brexit losing-side’s biggest figures a knighthood.

The Telegraph reports:

The honour would make the politician, who spent five years as deputy prime minister, ‘Sir Nick’.

Fellow Liberal Democrats Sir Vince Cable and Sir Ed Davey, who also served in the Coalition government, have already received knighthoods.

Mr Clegg lost his Sheffield Hallam seat in this year’s general election.

He is an ardent supporter of the European Union and has called for a second referendum on Brexit.

Senior Liberal Democrat sources told the Daily Mail that Mr Clegg was in line for the honour.

A Liberal Democrat spokesman told the paper: “We don’t comment on any honours list speculation.”

In September Mr Clegg suggested the question of Brexit should be put to the people again because Leave voters are dying off.
