London: Car Carrying Gunshot Victim Ploughs into Pedestrians

A man has been arrested for dangerous driving after a Mercedes carrying a gunshot victim crashed into pedestrians and parked cars in West London.

Police were called to Uxbridge Road, Hillingdon, at 2:45pm Thursday after a silver Mercedes Benz, driving at speed, spun out of control hitting the parked cars and people.

Though no pedestrians suffered serious injury, the passenger, in his 20s and suffering from gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead at the scene by air ambulance.

The driver was arrested shortly after on suspicion of dangerous driving.

There have not been any arrests in relation to the shooting, and police have launched a murder investigation.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “A silver Mercedes was reported to have collided with a number of pedestrians and vehicles.

“None of the pedestrians are believed to have serious injuries.

“A male passenger in the Mercedes was found to be suffering from a suspected gunshot injury.”

Witnesses told Get West London that 10 to 15 police cars and an air ambulance responded to the crash, treating four people for injuries.  One female bystander was described as “visibly distressed and crying”.

According to the BBC, the latest victim represents the 13th fatal shooting in London this year, despite the UK having some of the toughest laws on personal gun ownership in the world.

From the years 2015/16 to 2016/17, there were 2,551 incidents of gun crime in London — a rise of 16.3 per cent on the previous year.
