TEL AVIV – Hillary Clinton’s campaign attacked rival Bernie Sanders’ Middle East policies – which include the idea that Iranian troops should fight the Islamic State – saying they were dangerous for Israel.

Jake Sullivan, a foreign policy adviser to Clinton, said that Sanders’ proposal to normalize relations with Iran, made during the most recent Democratic debate, was dangerous to the Jewish state.

“Iran seeks the destruction of Israel, Iran is a leading sponsor of terror in the region, Iran is flouting international law with its ballistic missile tests and its threats against our allies and partners,” Sullivan said in a video the Clinton campaign posted to social media this week.

Sullivan also slammed Sanders’ argument in an earlier debate that Muslim nations, including Iran, should contribute troops to combat the Islamic State.

“It’s like inviting one of the arsonists to join the firefighters, not to mention the fact that it would be putting more Iranian firepower right on Israel’s doorstep,” Sullivan said.

Pro-Clinton Jewish groups have ripped into Sanders, who is Jewish, for his comments on Iran. In an interview with the National Journal, Steve Rabinowitz, a veteran Democratic Jewish activist who co-founded Jewish Americans Ready for Hillary, said: “Bernie was a little wack on all but wanting to normalize relations with Iran and wanting to see Iranian ground troops in Syria,” he said. “Like really? Really? Holy crap.”
