Russia Gives Thumbs Up To Selling Arms To Syria

Remember when the Obama Administration, via Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, vowed to hit the reset button with Russia? That hasn’t worked out too well.

Yesterday, Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister, Anatoly Antonov, said that Russia would continue to abide by its contracts with murderous Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, even though about 8,000 people have been killed by the regime over the past few months. Syria is also using Russian-made mines along its border to prevent citizens from fleeing.

“Russia enjoys good and strong military technical co-operation with Syria, and we see nor eason today to reconsider it,” said Antonov. “Russian-Syrian military cooperation is perfectly legitimate … It’s part of our contractual obligation [to provide military instructors as well]. When we supply weapons, we have to provide training.

The Russian statements follow in the wake of the Kremlin’s continued opposition to doing anything about the Iranian nuclear program. Russia has supplied significant technology and material to the Iranians for that program. While one Western diplomat complained that Russia clearly didn’t want “a solution to the crisis in Egypt,” the Obama Administration has remained silent.
