With Diplomacy Dead, Obama Administration Sides with Rebels in Syria

For a time, the Obama administration made it clear they didn’t have a horse in the race as far as Syria was concerned. President Obama opposed Senator John McCain’s plan to provide arms to the Syrian opposition, yet he also opposed aiding Syrian President Bashar al-Assad militarily.

But now that all the diplomatic options have been exhausted and it appears Assad will almost certainly be ousted from power,  the Obama administration has resigned itself to “helping the rebels defeat the Syrian regime on the battlefield.” This means the U.S. has gone from being a spectator to an actual player in the game, with the CIA and other intelligence agencies actively working to guarantee a rebel victory.

And although we’re still refusing to supply the rebels with “lethal weapons,” one can’t help but wonder how long it will be till that changes as well?  Especially if Assad continues holding power instead of abdicating it.
