Obama Admin Signals to Iran U.S. Will Not Participate in Israeli Strikes

The Obama administration now assures Iran the U.S. will not participate in Israeli strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities.

According to reports, the Obama administration is doing everything it can do to avoid giving the impression that America stands with Israel at this time. And this includes working through diplomatic channels to inform Iran that they need not retaliate against the U.S. in the event of a strike, because the U.S. will not be helping Israel carry it out.

Of course, Iran isn’t the only nation getting the message here. Israel also sees that the thrust of Obama’s position is no help for the Jewish state on this particular matter. Israel is on its own, despite the White House’s promises to the contrary in the first half of 2011.

This latest move by the Obama administration may inadvertently serve to guarantee that Israel strikes Iran sooner rather than later. The two strongest proponents for striking Iran in October, Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Barak, will certainly be among those most outraged by Obama’s latest gesture toward Iran.
