Libyan Official: US at Fault in Attacks

Although the head of Libya’s National Assembly has formally apologized for the killing of US Ambassador Christopher Stevens, other higher-ranking Libyan officials refuse to apologize and continue to contend the US is to blame.

For example, Libya’s Deputy Interior Minister Wanis Al-Sharif says the US should have realized its consulate personnel were in danger once the film “Innocence of Muslims” insulted Islam by calling the Prophet Mohammed into question. The film was made by an Israeli-American who is now in hiding.

Said Sharif: “[The US] is to blame simply for not withdrawing their personnel from the premises… It was necessary that they take precautions. It was their fault that they did not take the necessary precautions.”

Sharif also made it clear that the embassy was a sitting duck to begin with — that those who overran it were far better armed than those assigned to protect it.
