After the Election, Obama Reveals Iran Fired on U.S. Drone

Reports indicate that a U.S. drone which was not in Iranian airspace was nevertheless fired upon by Iranian fighter jets on Nov. 1

The Obama administration did not release news about the incident until two days after the presidential election, and the Department of Defense defended the secrecy by saying “the drone was on a classified mission.”

However, there are conflicting reports. And countering the DOD’s “classified mission” report is one by an unnamed U.S. official that says “the drone was on routine maritime surveillance in international waters.”

The conflicting story-lines give rise to a simple question: Has Iran become convinced they need not fear a response from the Obama administration at any time for any reason?

The Soviet Union certainly came to hold such a view of Jimmy Carter.
