Grover Norquist Backs Push for Puerto Rico Statehood

Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist has joined those pushing for statehood for Puerto Rico.

Norquist will be appearing with former Puerto Rico Governor Luis Fortuno for a press conference on the push for statehood in Washington, D.C. next week.

The group behind the push is the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, and their central argument is that to this point, Puerto Rico has paid all the dues a state pays, but without the full benefits of statehood. Puerto Ricans can send their children to war for the U.S., but they can’t vote vote for the U.S. president nor do they get equal representation in the U.S Congress.

The Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles is emphasizing the fact that Ronald Reagan supported statehood for Puerto Rico.
