Rand Paul Will Block Brennan Until Drone Questions Answered

On Feb. 21, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) said he will use every procedural option at his disposal to block the confirmation of John Brennan for CIA Director.

Paul found Brennan’s answers regarding the use of drones on Americans insufficient at times, evasive at others.

He was particularly troubled by Brennan’s answers regarding the possibility of using drones on U.S. territory; because Brennan would only say the Obama administration “has not carried out” such strikes instead of disavowing the possibility of domestic military action altogether.

The question which I and many others have asked is not whether the administration has or intends to carry out drone strikes inside the United States, but whether it believes it has the authority to do so. This is an important distinction.

Paul said the administration as whole has avoided answering this question, and he is determined to block Brennan’s confirmation until someone does.
