State Department, Michelle O Honor 9/11 Supporter, Anti-Semite

This Friday, Michelle Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry will give ten women the International Women of Courage Award at the State Department. As Samuel Tadros reports, one of those women, Samira Ibrahim, is an anti-Semite and supporter of suicide bombings, including 9/11.

While the State Department says that she’s “among seven women subjected by the Egyptian military to forced virginity tests in March 2011,” they neglect to mention that she tweeted happily about a suicide bombing against Israel (“Today is a very sweet day with a lot of very sweet news”); uses anti-Semitic slurs (the Saudi royal family, she tweeted, was “dirtier than the Jews”) and likes Hitler (“I have discovered with the passage of days, that no act contrary to morality, no crime against society, takes place, except with the Jews having a hand in it. Hitler.”); and hopes that “every year come[s] with America burning.”

Sounds like a terrific representative of the Arab Spring. She’s already trying to spin away those comments by saying that her account was “stolen” in the past. She only said that, of course, after being outed.

It is truly incredible that it has taken this long for her past to emerge; in April 2012, Charlize Theron penned a glowing piece for Time in which Ibrahim was featured as one of the Time 100. “It takes a strong person to stand up for what is right in the face of ostracism and public scrutiny. Samira represents the model of how to stand up to fear, and the impact she has made reaches far beyond Egypt,” Theron wrote.
