U.S. Condemns Claim Israel Aided Morsi's Ouster

White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters Tuesday the U.S. condemns and rejects Turkish Prime Minster Tayyip Erdogan’s accusation that Israel had “a hand in the Egyptian military’s overthrow of Mohamed Morsi.”

According to Ynetnews.com, Earnest said: “We strongly condemn the statements that were made by Prime Minister Erdogan today. Suggesting that Israel is somehow responsible for the recent events in Egypt is offensive, unsubstantiated, and wrong.”

Erdogan’s comments were made earlier that same day when he told his own AK Party: “What do they say in Egypt? Democracy is not the ballot box. What is behind it? Israel. We have in our hands documentation.”

Earnest also took time to tell reporters that claims that Obama was cutting off aid to Egypt were premature and inaccurate. He said Obama is still reviewing options and that the review has not been “concluded.”
