UK PM 'Urging' Obama to Strike Syria This Week

UK Prime Minister David Cameron is “urging” President Obama to strike Syria this week after reports last week of the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government.

According to The Jerusalem Post, Cameron has “allegedly been pressuring” Obama to launch a military strike in retaliation for Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons against rebel forces on August 21.

Obama and Cameron plan to talk more on either August 26 or 27, at which point they will continue discussions on the possibility of a strike. Joints Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey is scheduled to discuss strike options with British counterpart Gen. Nick Houghton on August 26.

NBC News reports that Secretary of State John Kerry is accusing Syria of using chemicals weapons against its own people and he says Obama believes “there must be accountability.”
