Iran’s president says he could reach out to world leaders about resuming nuclear talks during the U.N. General Assembly later this month in New York.

Tuesday’s report by the official IRNA news agency quotes President Hasan Rouhani as saying that he could seek dialogue to try to get the negotiations back on track. The report gave no further details.

Talks between Iran and world powers were last held in April amid deadlock over Western efforts to rein in Tehran’s controversial nuclear program.

Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif plan to attend the U.N. gathering _ the president’s first trip to the West since his inauguration in August.

The U.S. and allies believe Iran seeks to develop nuclear weapons. Iran says it only seeks reactors for energy and medical applications.
