Ukraine Parliament Votes to Dismiss President Viktor Yanukovich

Ukraine’s parliament voted on Saturday to dismiss President Viktor Yanukovich and hold early elections on May 25. Parliament said Yanukovich was “not fulfilling his obligations” in the resolution calling for new elections.

On Thursday, Yanukovich signed a deal with the opposition to reduce his presidential powers and hold early elections in December. The protesters were not happy because their main demand was for Yanukovich to resign.

He reportedly left Kiev for Kharkov late Friday night, which is in the pro-Russia east and where his party had a strong turnout in the last election.
