At White House, Obama Whitewashes Abbas

President Barack Obama met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday, telling the press at a joint conference that Abbas is “somebody who has consistently renounced violence.” Yet while he himself has not carried out violent acts, Abbas built his political career in the terrorist Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), and has repeatedly praised terrorism in recent months, much to the alarm of Israelis.

For example, Abbas has repeatedly praised the convicted terrorists whom Israel was forced to release by the Obama administration to satisfy Palestinian conditions for returning to peace talks. In October 2013, he called them “our heroic brothers.” He did the same in December 2013. He recently applauded a call for “jihad” in Jerusalem. He has even granted notorious terrorists posthumous honors. The list of examples goes on and on.

In addition, to formally rejecting any recognition of Israel as a “Jewish state,” Abbas has a documented record as a Holocaust denier. His political party, Fatah, has branches that have continued to launch terror attacks against Israeli civilians. These facts are deliberately obscured by President Obama, but well known to Israelis, both Jewish and Arab–which is why polls show Israelis have no confidence in Obama’s security guarantees.
