Jordanian Ambassador Freed After Being Abducted in Libya

On May 13th Jordanian ambassador to Libya Fawaz al-ltan was released by his captors in Libya and flown back to Jordan.

According to BBC News, al-ltan “was kidnapped in [Tripoli] on April 15 when masked gunmen shot at his car, wounding the driver.”

After his release al-ltan said, “They (the kidnappers) treated me in a civilized and humane manner.”

Meanwhile, Jordan freed Mohamed Dersi, “a Libyan Islamist militant jailed for life.” He was jailed in 2007 “for plotting to blow up an airport in Jordan.” The kidnappers reportedly demanded Dersi’s release, but Jordan denies he was freed as part of a “prisoner exchange or deal.”
