Chinese City 'Sealed Off' Due to Bubonic Plague

Yumen, China has been “sealed off and 151 people have been place on quarantine” since a bubonic plague death last week.

According to The Guardian, police set up “roadblocks on the parameter of the city” and motorists who normally drive through Yumen to reach their destinations are being told to find another route.

The city’s 30,000 residents are not allowed to leave. The Guardian quotes China Central Television (CCTV) as reporting “the city has enough rice, flour and oil supply [for the] residents for up to one month.”

CCTV also reported that “local residents and those in quarantine are all in stable condition.”

There have been no deaths since the one reported on July 16.
