Kiev, July 26 (QNA) – The Mayor of Kariminchuk city in central Ukraine was killed today in an armed attack.
Anton Gerashchenko, an aide to the country’s Interior Minister, said the mayor of Kremenchuk , Oleh Babayev, was killed when a car pulled up to his own, and an unidentified person fired three shots from a gun with a silencer.
In a statement Gerashchenko said “It is well known that Babayev enjoys support of a large number of people in Kremenchuk and during protests against Yanukovych he supported the activists who the attorney general and the local police wanted to send to jail.
On his Facebook page, Gerachthenko added that the house of Mayor of Liviv Andriy Sadoviyat was attacked last night by a grenade launcher but he was not at home at the time.
Ukraine is experiencing unrest since last November, when thousands protested the rule of former President Viktor Yanukovych who was ousted at the end of February.(QNA)
