Iran claims it used a missile to shoot down an Israeli drone near the Natanz nuclear enrichment site “185 miles south of… Tehran.”
No word was issued as to when the drone was allegedly shot down or how Iran knew it was from Israel.
According to BBC News, “Natanz is Iran’s main uranium enrichment site, and contains more than 16,000 centrifuges.” Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claims the Israeli drone “was on course to fly over the nuclear facility” when it was shot down.
Israel has refused comment on the claim, but it should be noted that this is not the first time Iran has alleged the capture of a drone from Israel or the U.S.
On December 7, 2012, Breitbart News reported Iran’s claim to have “captured” a U.S. ScanEagle drone. The Revolutionary Guard said the drone crossed into Iranian airspace and was captured. They claimed to have recovered information from the drone showing it was being used to spy on Iranian “military installations and oil terminals.”
In February 2013, USA Today published video Iran “allegedly extracted” from a RQ-170 Sentinel drone, which Iran claimed to have captured in 2011.
“American officials” confirmed that Iran had in fact captured the RQ-170 Sentinel. Those officials asked Iran to give it back, but the Iranians said no.
