At least eight people have been killed in a shooting at a restaurant in the Czech Republic, the country’s interior ministry has said.

Sky News says the shooting took place in the city of Uhersky Brod, which has a population of 17,000 and is located in the east of the country.

Czech media outlet Czeska Televiza (CT) reports that the gunman has been killed. The city’s mayor, Patrick Kuncar, said that the gunman was a 60-year-old local man who was “unstable”, adding that a waitress from the restaurant had also been hospitalised.

Although the motive remains unclear, officials have ruled out terrorism. “According to available information, it was not a terrorist attack,” the mayor said in a tweet.
